These are very confusing words indeed. Ketiga-tiga perkataan ni maksudnye in malay is menarik perhatian while in English, they are actually synonyms cause they have similar meaning. But how can we differentiate, I may suggest as below:
– Interesting: catch the attention, create curiosity. usually pakai untuk bende yang baru or bila orang ingin tahu tentang sesuatu berita or cerita.
Example: Further exploration of these excretory pathways will provide interesting new insights on the numerous cholestatic and hyperbilirubinemic syndromes that occur in nature.
– Attractive: kalau maksudnye menarik perhatian, attractive is used bila nk describe sesuatu yang kita nak pakai or beli. Bole juga pakai bila kita ada choices/decision to make and “attractive choice” is the one yang kita nak pilih.
Example: In view of many ethical and legal problems, connected in some countries with obtaining human fetal tissue for transplantation, cross-species transplants would be an attractive alternative.
– Appealing: ni maksud menarik perhatian utk kita menghayati or tgk lama2. sbb when we felt something is appealing, kita nk spend time on it or give more effort.
Example: Its Google Preferred initiative, launched in October 2014, packages up its most popular channels into more appealing media buys for big brands.
Also, be careful with “attract” and “appeal” words too sbb they have multiple meanings. Hope this helps 🙂
